The Zig Zag Railway relies on the support of dedicated volunteers to help with various aspects of its operations. There are several volunteer roles available that help us keep this heritage site alive, and give you the chance to gain valuable skills and experience in the process.
Current Volunteer Roles
Train Operations- Rail Safety Worker, Signaler, Guard, Steam Fireman, Steam Driver, Diesel Driver, Section Car Operator.
Guest Services- Retail Crew Member, Guest Services Crew Member, Event Crew Member
Workshop and Technical- Workshop Wednesdays
Next Gen- Junior Volunteers (Year 7 to 18 years old) help out with all sectors of the railway with a focus on Event Crew and Guest Services roles as train operations work cannot be undertaken until 18 years of age.
Volunteer Compliance Requirements
Working with Children Check – YES
National Criminal Record Check – NO
Medical – Fit for Work – Rail Operations Volunteers must complete a category 2 medical assessment but other volunteers are not required to complete this.
Cost – Annual membership $40 per Adult
