CAN Assist Lithgow

As required based on fundraising activities

Can Assist Lithgow is a local volunteer-run branch of the NSW cancer support charity Can Assist. Their main role is to provide practical and financial assistance to people in the Lithgow region who are undergoing cancer treatment.

They help local residents with costs such as:

  • Travel to cancer treatment appointments
  • Accommodation during treatment away from home
  • Medication and medical expenses
  • Fuel and transport costs
  • Utility bills and household expenses
  • Food vouchers and other day-to-day living costs during illness

A key part of their model is that funds raised locally stay in the local community to support Lithgow and surrounding villages including Portland, Wallerawang, Tarana, Rydal, Meadow Flat, Little Hartley, Lidsdale and Cullen Bullen.

The branch is run by volunteers and relies on donations, fundraising events and community support from local businesses, mining and energy industries, clubs and residents.

They also encourage volunteers to help with fundraising and branch activities.
